Connie A. Stephens, 73, lifelong resident of Indianapolis, passed away at her home on Thursday, September 24, 2020 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Connie was born in Indianapolis on October 31, 1946 to the late Robert F. and Mary D. (Dugan) Rogers.
Connie graduated from Sacred Heart High School in the class of 1964. Upon graduating, Connie began her career as an administrator at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Indianapolis where she was employed for six years. During her employment there, she was named “Miss FBI” and rode in the Indy 500 parade. Following her tenure there, Connie was employed as an investigator for the Internal Revenue Service in Indianapolis for over 31 years. A dedicated worker, Connie enjoyed her part time jobs through retirement. She worked at Von Maur in Greenwood for six years in the Jewelry and Men’s departments. Most recently, Connie was employed as a part time administrator and greeter at O’Riley Funeral Home in Indianapolis.
A devout Catholic, Connie was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church since 1975. In her spare time when she was not working, she enjoyed playing euchre and dancing to bands with friends. Connie relished in football season, always cheering on her Purdue Boilermakers (Boiler Up!) and the Indianapolis Colts. Above all, she was a fervent mother and grammy to her four grandchildren. Connie had a smile that could light up an entire room. She will be remembered as a classy lady who was always well dressed and polite. Connie was known for her positive attitude and kind spirit; attributes that exhibited themselves even in her final days. Connie will be greatly missed by all of those who were lucky to know and love her.
Survivors include her children, Charlie (Mitzi) Stephens and Michelle (John) Kruger; her precious grandchildren, Julianne and Nora Stephens, Vaughn and Victor Kruger; her sisters, Kathy English and Francie (Mike) Downie; a host of loving friends, coworkers, and extended family members.
