David Lee Curtis

David Lee Curtis, 74, Indianapolis, was called home on August 12, 2016 to share a belated 50-year anniversary with his beloved wife Judy. Born March 21, 1942 in Indianapolis to the late Carl and Elizabeth Curtis, Dave graduated from Southport High School in 1960 and married Judith Elrod in 1961. He worked for 34 years at the Ford Motor Co. transmission plant on English Avenue, retiring in 1995. As a devoted husband, dad and grandpa, Dave spent his life enjoying family events, fishing, playing cards, conducting his annual Easter egg hunt, leading the “Hokie Pokie” at wedding receptions, and attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events, where he was always quick with a helpful tip for a coach, umpire or referee. Dave also enjoyed traveling with Judy, family and friends, with fall trips to Maine, fishing trips to Wisconsin, lucky getaways to Las Vegas, and his many cruises being some of his favorites. He almost single handedly kept “Hallmark” in business by sending a timely card to his children or grandchildren for most any occasion. Dave is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Judy. Surviving are his children, Debbie (Don) Applegate, Bonnie Larosa, Jeff (Angie), Mike (Lynette), and Phil (Lori) Curtis; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The family expresses its deep gratitude to Dave’s friends and amazing caregivers at Rosegate and St. Francis Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at St. Jude Catholic Church, of which Dave was a member, with burial following at Calvary Cemetery.
