Demetrius William Walter McCleary

Demetrius William Walter McCleary, 35, passed away at home suddenly on September 20, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with Type 1 Diabetes and Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Demtrius was born on August 29, 1986 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Anderson and Patricia (McCleary) Mays.

Demtrius loved sports, but especially NBA basketball. Demetrius loved to keep up with current events and bowling with his family. He was the most thoughtful individual; Demetrius could remember every person’s birthday. Demetrius loved to read. His favorite books being comic books. Ever since Demetrius was young, he loved Superman. He would always say when he grew up, he wanted to be Superman.

Demetrius maintained an extremely positive approach in life; his great attitude and perseverance were traits to be admired. Demtrius will be remembered as a respectful, kind, and loving guy who was simply a joy to be around; his courageous spirit will be sorely missed by all of those who knew him.

Demtrius is preceded in death by his grandfather, Anderson Mays, Sr.; his grandmother, Loisezee McCleary; aunts, Barbara Mays and August McCleary; and cousins, Latoya Mas and Kallie McCleary.

Along with his parents, Demtrius is survived by sister, Natesha Sheridan; brother, Anderson McCleary; brother, Dwight McCleary; sister, Latasha Brown; sister, Latonya McCleary; sister, Andrea Mays; and a host of nieces and nephews.
