Dolores Helen Schroeder Boyce, passed away June 24, 2016, at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis, IN. She was born in Indianapolis on February 15, 1926, to Henry John and Josephine Mary Bedel Schroeder. The youngest of 10 children, Dolores was raised on South Talbott Street in Indianapolis and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School. Her mother and father moved to Indianapolis from Ripley County, Indiana, both descending from German-immigrant, 1850s-era farming families.
Dolores met Leslie John Boyce Sr. in 1942 while Leslie was attending radio school at the U.S. Naval Armory in Indianapolis. Les and Dolores married on December 1, 1945. To this marriage were born 10 children. Les and Dolores attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church until the early 1950s, when they moved to St. Mark Parish and spent several decades. In the late 70s they changed residences and joined St. Jude Parish.
During her adult life, Dolores enjoyed attending the athletic events of her children and grandchildren. She coached CYO kickball and softball at Edgewood Little League and in 1980 was awarded the Monsignor Busald award for her contributions. Later she loved to volunteer with St. Francis Senior Promise.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Henry, Adelaide, Matilda, Mary, Anthony, Robert, Paul, Francis; and grandson, J. Ryan Boyce. She is survived by her sister, Emma; and children, Francis Wayne (Brenda), Lawrence Steven (Debbie), Nancy Marie Strange (Larry), Rose Dolores Bartlett (Wayne), Timothy Joseph (Kathy), Carol Anne Cook (Gayle), Leslie John Jr. (Cheryl), Kenneth Michael (Lori), Mary Joan Brown (Ben), Kevin Patrick (Dianna); 22 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, July 1, 2016, 4 p.m to 8 p.m. in Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Jude Catholic Church.
