Douglas A. “Doug” Johnson, 38, passed away at Franciscan Hospital in Indianapolis on December 8, 2021. He was born on February 16, 1983 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana to David A. “Dave” and Mary E. “Mame” (Hurrle) Johnson; Dave and Mame survive.
Doug graduated from Southport High School in the class of 2001 and attended elementary school at St. Mark. He established himself in the field of trucking logistics beginning with many years at UPS and other local logistics firms. Doug’s last position was with Backhaul Direct, LLC. as a shipping broker in Indianapolis. He was currently pursuing an Associate's degree at Ivy Tech Community College.
An avid fisherman and outdoorsman, Doug loved to go fishing or camping at Lake Monroe or Patoka Lake in his spare time. He was passionate about vintage cars and loved to work on them with his dad. Notable cars they owned and worked on together were the Camaro and the Z06 Corvette. Doug delighted in going to car shows on Saturday night summers with his dad at The Suds in Greenwood, marveling at the various vintage cars. Doug absolutely adored animals, especially his two beloved cats and was a dirt bike enthusiast.
Above all, Doug was a loving son, brother, and uncle. Generous to a fault, Doug was able to extend his generosity through the selfless act of organ donation. Doug’s kidneys, corneas, and various other organs will go on to provide the gift of life. He cared for others in a genuine way that won’t soon be forgotten by those he leaves behind.
