Ian Joseph Matthews, a beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend, was born on November 18, 1990, in Beech Grove, Indiana. He left this world far too soon on March 24, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, leaving behind a legacy of joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Ian was a proud graduate of Roncalli High School, where he graduated in 2009. He pursued his passion for science at Indiana University, earning a degree in Biochemistry. For several years, he worked at Firestone, applying his knowledge and dedication in the field.
Known for his vibrant personality, Ian had a gift for connecting with people. He was extremely social and loved to spend time with family and friends. Witty and smart, he possessed a competitive spirit that often came out during family gatherings, particularly during "The Easter Games," a cherished family tradition. Ian had a knack for playfully teasing and challenging those around him, and loved to make people laugh with his extraordinary sense of humor.
Ian had a deep love for nature and often found happiness in the great outdoors. Hiking and traveling with his family and friends brought him immense joy, and he treasured the moments spent exploring together. Many will fondly remember Ian’s younger years, spent at Mamaw and Papaw's house, where he created countless memories while his parents were at work. He loved the Sunday evening poker games at his Grandma's house where he would come home with his penny jar stuffed full of money and IOU's! His connection with family was essential to his life, and these moments shaped the incredible person he became.
There was something special about Ian's evenings; he could often be spotted at the drive-thru at Taco Bell, regardless of the time of day or night. His love for video games, particularly retro gaming, was a defining aspect of his personality. Ian’s passion for gaming led him to enjoy many fun-filled nights, often surrounded by friends who appreciated his playful competitiveness.
An inseparable bond existed between Ian and his four-legged companion, Beau. With Beau by his side, Ian’s world was further enriched with unconditional love and companionship.
Ian is survived by his parents; Mike & Pam Matthews, sisters; Robyn (Sean) McCorkle & Kylie (Tobias) Schuster, grandpa; James Burcham, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
