Imogene (Smith) Griner, 88, passed away at the Franciscan Hospice House after fighting a courageous battle with colon cancer on the evening of January 5, 2022. Imogene was born on October 24, 1933, in Stonewall, West Virginia to the late Ezra and Zelpha Smith.
Imogene was a hardworking woman. She worked for many years as a cashier at Standard Grocery, where she met her late husband, Paul Griner. Imogene and Paul were truly in love and spent every moment they could together. They loved to work, travel, bowl, and work crossword puzzles together. Both Paul and Imogene were avid golfers. Even when Paul was ill, Imogene dedicated her time to caring for him until his death; their incredible love for each other is something that her family will remember forever.
Outside of work, Imogene loved to read and sew. She had a creative mind and loved to draw and write. Handwritten letters to those she loved was something Imogene was known for. She was extremely thoughtful and sentimental, treasuring every card and letter she received back. Going to the movies, especially with her grandchildren, was something Imogene found joy in. She was an incredible cook who was known for her homemade chili and breakfast for dinner, along with a vast collection of recipes.
Imogene will be remembered as a strong woman with an uncanny wit who had an immense love for her family. She had a sense of humor that was one-of-a-kind, and she maintained this sense up until the end of her life. She will be terribly missed by all of those who loved her.
Imogene was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband, Paul D. Griner, and her siblings, Paul, Alidene, and Rayburn.
Survivors include her children, Beverly Sorrell, Debbie Perkins, Donna McEndree, Lisa Cox, and Kathy Holt; her grandchildren, Eric Perkins, Sean Copley, Bobby Spears, Daniel Fitzgerald, Jada White, Ian McEnree, Sarah White, Waymon Holt, and Caitlin Untiedt; her great grandchildren, Elle, Caiden and Logan Holt, Zeke Perkins, Addyson and Landyn McEndree, Kaia Medrano, and Hardin Untiedt; her siblings, Wanda Adams and Mary Perry; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
