John Francis Dalton Joseph “Jack” Carroll, 90, lifelong Indianapolis resident passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospice House on October 31, 2022. Jack was born November 17, 1931, to the late Thomas P. Carroll, Sr., and Mary Dalton Carroll. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of nearly 64 years, Shirley Wendling Carroll and his brother, Thomas P. Carroll, Jr.
Jack graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1949 and was a three-sport letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he also played basketball, baseball, and volleyball with his fellow serviceman. Jack worked nearly 40 years in the production of the Indianapolis Star and News. He was active in sports and coached CYO basketball, and Indiana Central Little League baseball. Jack was a member at St. Barnabas Catholic Church for over 50 years where he served as an usher and helped count the Sunday collections. He loved to play Pinochle, Euchre, Aggravation, and loved to spend time with his family especially on vacation in Florida. While Jack loved all of his many activities, the greatest love he had was for his family. Jack was a great husband, father and grandfather, a consummate volunteer and an all-around great guy.
Jack is survived by his children, Gregory (Michelle) Carroll, Christina (Dr. Joe) LaRosa, Cathy (Bill) Holland, Lisa (Jim) Feltz, grandchildren Dominic (Rebecca) LaRosa, Hannah (Jake) Meredith, Adrianna (Caleb) Ernest, Brendan (Emily) Carroll, Francesca (David) Rohrer, Brenna Holland, Dash Holland, Lucas LaRosa, Mariesa LaRosa, Sean Carroll, Liz (Jonah) Hollis, Michael Feltz, Allison Feltz, Zachary Stopher and four great- grandchildren.
