Jack Clinton Finney, a beloved soul who touched the hearts of many, passed away on May 18, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on August 30, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio to his loving parents Jack and Georgia (Leap) Finney.
Jack was raised in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, where he spent his summers as a lifeguard.
Jack led a fulfilling life dedicated to service and connection. He worked tirelessly for 40 years in the claims and risk management at Crawford and Company before embarking on a new chapter as a bus driver for Franklin Township Schools upon retirement. Jack's commitment to his work was commendable and left a lasting impact on those around him.
A man of great intellect and passion for learning, Jack graduated from Lawrenceburg High School and later pursued his education at Ball State University. His thirst for knowledge was evident in all aspects of his life.
Outside of work and academia, Jack found solace in nature as a master gardener. He reveled in the beauty of blooming flowers and thriving plants. Additionally, he enjoyed spending leisurely afternoons playing golf with friends and family.
Sports held a special place in Jack's heart, particularly IU basketball, the Pacers, and horse racing. Watching thrilling games brought him immense joy and excitement over the years. Furthermore, Jack had a deep love for traveling to different destinations like Hawaii, Vegas, Disney World, and the Biltmore estate. These adventures allowed him to create cherished memories that will be forever treasured.
You would find Jack on Wednesday night dining with his close friends, and on Thursday at the Thirsty Turtle. Friends and a good time meant the world to Jack.
Above all else, Jack valued his time spent with loved ones. His family meant the world to him, especially his adoring wife Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Hermann Finney, children, and grandchildren. Jack leaves his legacy to his children Michael (Tricia) Finney, Erin Finney, Jacqueline Finney, and Timothy (Lucy) Finney; sister Patricia (Joe) Checkawitz; sisters-in-law Donna Williams and Dolores Thie; grandchildren Morgan, Madison, Kristofer, Kody, Evie, Kora, Colin, Donovan, Kyle, Alyssa; great-grandchildren Karlie, James and Isabella; as well as many nieces and nephews and his four-legged companion Duke.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Hermann Finney, daughter Megan E. Finney, parents Jack and Georgia Leap Finney.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 22nd at O’Riley - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will continue celebrating Jack’s life, telling stories following the burial from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at his home.
