Langsford, James R. 94, of St. Petersburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7th, 2016. He was born on April 4, 1922 in Indianapolis, IN, to the late Alice E. Baker- Langsford and James E. Langsford. James served proudly in the United State Army Air Corps during WWII. Immediately after, he joined the Indianapolis Police Department, retiring as a Major after 30 years of service. He then served in the Indianapolis Public Schools Police Department for another 15 years. James also served in the Indiana National Guard retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. James is survived by children; Richard Langsford (Jennifer); James Langsford, Julie Scholl (Jeffery), Jennifer Neilsen, Kris Neilsen; stepchildren, Kathleen Fernald (Steve), Susan Balas (Donald), Paula Gwaltney (Mark), Joanne Mallon (Michael); 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; many extended family members and friends.In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by his brother, Ernest Langsford, sister, Patricia Hayes, and daughters Donna Lyons and Sherrie Peak. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. in Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East St. (US HWY 31S), Indianapolis, IN 46227 followed by a service at 3 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
