John Lee Phillips

On April 11, 2024, the world lost a beloved soul as John Lee Phillips peacefully passed away at his Residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 15, 1945, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Wilbur and Mary (McClanahan) Phillips, John led a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
 
 John dedicated himself to a fulfilling career as a purchasing agent for Barth Electric for 26 years. His sharp mind and unwavering commitment left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of working alongside him. Beyond his professional endeavors, John found joy in various hobbies that truly defined his essence. He was an avid golfer, finding solace and happiness while navigating the lush greens of golf courses. His passion for duplicate bridge and achieving Life Master status showcased his strategic prowess and love for mental challenges. Additionally, John found peace in activities like fishing, camping, and basking in the beauty of Gulf Shores Alabama's beaches.
 
 Educated at Wiley High School in Terre Haute, Indiana, John excelled in sports such as track, baseball, and football. Among his proudest accomplishments was hitting a notable triple from Tommy Johns – a memory cherished by all who witnessed it.
 
 John's military service in the U.S. Army exemplified his dedication to serving his country with honor and valor. However, above all else, John was most proud of being a devoted father to Lisa, Darren and Nathan and grandfather to  his six grandchildren.
 
 In mourning the loss of John Lee Phillips are his beloved wife Bibiana "Bibi' (Brizendine) Phillips; son Darren (Alyssa) Phillips; daughter Lisa Phillips;  sibling Donald Phillips,  Ellen (Denny) Eckert; grandchildren Violet, Lyla, Luke, Elsa, Henry and Silas, along with a host of extended family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Mary (McClanahan) Phillips, son Nathan Phillips, brother William Phillips, and sisters Shirley Washburn and Leah Pennington.
 
 Services to honor and celebrate John's life will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at O'Riley - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis, IN  46227.  A visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM. The burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

The family would like to thank St. Francis Geriatric Group, Aspen Trace Health Care, Traditions Hospice, and the many family and friends for their support and love during John’s illness.


 John Lee Phillips will forever be remembered for his kindness, wit, and unwavering love for his family. John leaves a message to all his golfing buddies “Hit them long and straight”.
