Juris Francis Megnis, 81 of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023. He was born November 30, 1941, in Kuldiga, Latvia.
Juris faithfully served his adopted country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a private first class and was a armor crewman and typist for the 1st Infantry. After serving in the Army he became an American citizen.
He attended Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. Juris was an avid reader, history buff and enjoyed teaching others grammar and linguistics. He enjoyed playing chess, doing crosswords puzzles and sudoku. He will be remembered for his joke telling. He deeply loved his family and was always quick to make a friend at his residence at Bethany Village. His family is thankful for the love and support he received there.
Juris is preceded in death by his parents Janis and Anna Veckungs Megnis, sister Agnese Fulkerson, brother Eduards Megnis. He is survived by his sister Silvia Megnis, nieces Whitney Bowman, great nieces Aija Bowman, Ayslin Bowman, Kiley Bowman.
A graveside service for Juris will be Tuesday, July 18 at 10 AM at Calvary Cemetery.
