Leona Ruth Marlett, 84, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully March 13, 2017. Mrs. Marlett was born September 26, 1932, in Manilla, Indiana, to the late Charles B. and Gertrude M. (Rolver) Ernstes.
She graduated from St. Mary Academy and worked for 28 years for Lucent Technologies (formerly Western Electric), retiring in 1989. Mrs. Marlett was a devoted member of St. Jude Catholic Church. She had also been a member and past president of Telcom Pioneers. Through her membership in Telcom Pioneers, she was an active volunteer with Special Olympics and Dayspring Center. An avid reader, she also enjoyed traveling and watching basketball games. Above all, she was a loving and loyal matriarch who will be fondly remembered by her loving family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Louis Marlett; son, Donald Marlett, Jr.; grandson, Dylan Cole; six brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include her son, Thomas (Colleen) Marlett of Greenfield; daughters, Sandra (Kent) McDonald of Mooresville, April (Charles) Nemeth of Greenwood, and Karen Marlett of Mooresville; sisters, Lucy Corder of Indianapolis and Florence “Betty” Malin of Florida; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017, in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeal Home, 6107 S. East Street (US Hwy 31 South). Additional visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, March 17, 2017, in St. Jude Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
