Loretta Staab Sahm

Loretta (Staab) Sahm, 80, Indianapolis, passed away February 6, 2021. Loretta was born April 4, 1940, in Indianapolis to the late Harriet (Munn) Staab and Raymond Staab.

While she attended Scecina and Jennings High Schools, Loretta graduated from Shawe Memorial High School in Madison, IN. She started her teaching career at Holy Name Elementary in Beech Grove, IN, and married her late husband, Mark Sahm, in 1961. She graduated from Marian College and later earned a Master’s in Education from Indiana Central (now the University of Indianapolis).

She was a proud and dedicated teacher. During her long career, she also taught for the Indianapolis Public School system and finished her formal career at Stout Field Elementary in the MSD of Wayne Township. After retiring, Loretta served as a substitute teacher in the areas of Southport and Greenwood for a number of years and played bridge at The Social of Greenwood frequently.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Sahm, in 2006.
Survivors include her children: Joanne (Keith) Sauter, Raymond (Rita) Sahm, and Mary Mills; grandchildren: Nic (Erin) Sahm, Sarah Kays and Emily Kays; brother, John Staab, and sisters, Delores (H. David) Bostic and Barbara (Roger) Fortner.

Visitation will be Friday, February 12, 2021, 6 to 8 p.m., at the O'Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street. Those attending are reminded to wear masks and practice physical distancing. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2021, in Holy Name Catholic Church in Beech Grove. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
