Maggie Greeley, 90, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018. Born, Margaret R. McClure, on July 9, 1927 in Indianapolis, Maggie was the daughter of the late Albert and Luella (Williams) McClure. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, P. William “Bill” Greeley, and four siblings.
Maggie was employed by Eli Lilly and Company for 39 years, retiring in 1986 as Senior Personnel Representative.
After retiring, she volunteered at Catholic Services, in the Crisis Office, as well as the Information and Referral Network, which included Senior Citizens Information Services. It was here that she became aware and interested in the many issues facing older citizens, especially the physically limited and those who had limited income.
Maggie’s interest and activities in the world of Senior Citizens, led to a second career at WTHR-TV as the Seniors Reporter. She focused her reports on researching, writing, and delivering messages to older citizens and those who loved and cared for them, on health issues, legislation affecting the aging, legal issues, travel, educational opportunities, sports, leisure activities and much more.
Maggie was the first recipient of the GATEKEEPERS MEDIA AWARD, presented in 1993 by Central Indiana Council of Aging. She was a delegate to the Older Hoosiers Legislative Assembly in 1989, a member of the planning committee for the Governor’s Conference on Aging from 1989-1992, and a member of the Governor’s committee for Healthy Older People, under Gov. Robert Orr. She served on Boards of Directors for the South Group Symphony, Senior Enterprises, Indianapolis Senior Citizens Center, CICOA.
Maggie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Shawn Fossler of Zionsville; and her granddaughter, Brena Elise Fossler, who was her pure joy.
