Martha Sue DiGiovanna (nèe Frederick), 73, passed away Thursday, April 19th, 2018, following a period of recovery.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 23, 2018, 4 to 8 p.m., in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2018, in Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery, Indianapolis.
Martha was born on 10 November, 1944 in Haleyville, Alabama, to Ola Mitchell and Amon John Frederick. She met her future husband, Charles Vincent DiGiovanna, in a South Bend Big Boy restaurant while he was attending the University of Notre Dame. They married on January 8, 1966, at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Center, New York. They settled in Indianapolis and raised one son, Charles Victor DiGiovanna. She was heavily involved in church and school life, and most recently was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church in Greenwood, Indiana. She was fond of trivia, especially history and geography, the vocalist quartet Il Divo, and she loved learning about and researching her family history.
Her family paid this tribute to her; “Martha Sue was the most deeply loving and understanding person I’ve ever known. She was always a bright light in any room. She loved her family, loved children, loved meeting and getting to know people, and doing good work with them.”
She was predeceased by her brother, John; her sisters, Gola and Patricia; and dear friends, Paul and Phyllis. She is survived by her loving husband and son, Charles Vincent and Charles Victor, and godson Gary and goddaughter Christina, who dearly miss her.
