Marvin Ray Wagner

September 2, 1927 — September 6, 2022

Marvin R. Wagner, 95 of Indianapolis, died Tuesday, September 6, 2022. He was born September 2, 1927, in Indianapolis to Edmund and Anna Schultheis Wagner.


Marvin graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1945 and immediately joined the Navy serving in WWII. He was a machinist and repairman for Diamond Chain for 46 years, then he worked 11 years at Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1998.


Marvin also served in the Army in Korea. He was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church.


On January 29, 1966, he married the love of his life Rita A Johnson at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Rita passed away July 12, 2022.

Marvin is survived by his children Harold (Hope) Wagner, Edmund (Cindy) Wagner, Gretchen (Kaitlyn Hatch) Wagner, Martin (Karyn) Wagner, brothers Joseph, James, and Paul Wagner and 8 grandchildren.


Marvin is preceded in death by his parents Edmund and Anna Wagner, wife Doris in 1963, daughter Katheryn Wagner in 1972, sisters Dolores Downton, Rita Portish, brothers Edmund G. Wagner, Donald Wagner.


Marvin was a lifelong learner and voracious reader. He enjoyed bluegrass music, camping and was an avid gardener. Marvin was also active in the Southside Democrat Club, United Steelworkers, United Auto Workers, PFLAG as well as DignityUSA.


Visitation for Marvin will be Friday, September 9, 2022, from 4 PM – 7 PM at O’Riley Branson Funeral Service, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10 AM at St Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Road, Indianapolis, Indiana. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
