Mary Catherine Fry passed on to be with our Lord and the angels on January 19, 2021 at Garden Villa, Bedford, after a two-week Covid-19 illness. Born in Indianapolis October 22, 1950 to Vincent and Aurelia (Schutter) Fry, Mary was the second-born of twins and the third-born child.
Mary was developmentally disabled from oxygen deprivation during birth. Through significant efforts by her father, she was able to attend school until age 13. She worked at Noble Sheltered Workshop for 7 years. Mary was a resident of the special-needs unit at Garden Villa in Bedford, IN for the past 7 years.
Mary is survived by her twin, Lucy Nicksin (Bill) of Bloomington, and older sister Bernice Keller (John) of Indianapolis, and nephews Brian Teipen, Indianapolis, Jeremiah Teipen, Brooklyn, NY, Aaron Fleming, Indianapolis, and nieces Jeannie Ambler, Rachel Newton, and Christa Fleming, all of Indianapolis. Additionally, Mary has 10 surviving great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Mary touched many people in her life. Through all of her suffering, she still had compliments and kind words spoken from the heart for the many people who showed her kindness. She helped us appreciate the simple things in life (weekly lunch at Wendy’s as a family unit; cruising and playing the radio, with no particular place to go; sing-alongs in the car to her favorite tunes). Those qualities in any person would be admired, made all the more special by Mary’s disability. She retained a sense of humor even through her toughest times and always expressed thanks for any kindness extended to her.
Covid-19 and the lock-down excluding visitors took its toll on Mary. We wish to thank the many warm and caring people at Garden Villa who supported her, loved her and were gentle and kind to her, even cuddling her during her illness. She was blessed to have such wonderful care givers. She will be sorely missed by many, most especially by Lucy and Bill, her weekly outing buddies.
