Nancy Marie Morton, 79, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully April 22, 2017. Mrs. Morton was born January 30, 1938, in Springfield, Illinois, to the late James Hamilton Broaddus and Helen (Burris) Freeburg.
Nancy graduated from Southport High School and worked for various employers through the years, including RCA, Sherman Carburetor, White Paper Products, and Riverview Hospital. Most recently, Nancy assisted neighbors with in-home health care. She was a member of the Commander’s Club Disabled American Veterans. She was a proud homemaker, enjoyed caring for her gardens, teaching her granddaughters how to cook, and always looked forward to watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune every night. Above all, Nancy was strongly devoted to her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Morton, Jr; son, David Matthew Webb; siblings, James, Frank, Mary, Curtis, George, Patricia, Jerry, Fred, and Dorothy; grandson, Eric Ryan Dudley.
Survivors include her children, Ernest Allen Thomas, Penny Denise Thomas, Elizabeth Ann (Roy) Blount, Jeffery Wayne Thomas, Douglas Anthony (Barbara) Thomas; step children, Tony Morton and Theresa Scott; siblings, Jo Ann Grimes, Harry Lee Broaddus, Charles E. Broaddus, and Pauline Kay Jones; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; special caregivers, Lissa Jesse and Lindsay Baldwin.
The funeral service will begin at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2017, in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East St. (US Hwy 31 South), with visitation there from 5 p.m. Visit www.ORileyFuneralHome.com to share a favorite memory or to sign the online guest registry.
