Ralph Joseph Jansen, Jr., 89, Indianapolis, passed away January 1, 2018. Joe was born December 11, 1928, in Indianapolis, to the late Ralph J. Jansen, Sr. and Elizabeth Ann (Daly) Jansen.
He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1947 and attended St. Joseph College and Butler University. Mr. Jansen proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He served on the Indianapolis Fire Department for 20 years retiring in 1970 as a chauffeur. A strong Catholic, Joe was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #3660. He coached Indiana Central Little League and CYO basketball for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou (Landwerlen) Jansen; a son, David L. Jansen; brother, Paul Thomas Jansen; daughter-in-law, Mary Anne Jansen.
Survivors include his children, Paul Thomas (Barb), R. Joseph III (Jill), James Michael (Beth), John Francis (Susan), Jerald (Barbara), and Mary Ann (Rick) Arnold; daughter-in-law, Ann Jansen; sisters, Anne (the late Bob) Armbruster and Mary Elizabeth (Bernard)Eagan, and Estelle (Dick) Redoutey; 19 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Pete) Schmutte, Jennifer Jansen, Donald (Rachel) Patton, David (Leah) Jansen, Stephanie (Dan)Riley, John (Shannon) Jansen, Kristina Jansen, Benjamin Jansen, Scott (Mandy) Jansen, Rebecca (Jacob) Wade, Julie (Aaron) Wypyszynski, Gregory (Stefanie) Jansen, Joe (Rachel Casini) Jansen, Laura Jansen, Peter Jansen, Meghan Jansen, Vincent Jansen, Brian Jansen, Erin Jansen; 21 great grandchildren, Andrew, Lillyanna, Charlotte, David II, Kaitlyn, Ian, Elizabeth, Kerrigan, Cormac, Walter, Evelyn, Kaden, Hannah, Alexandra, Nora, Lucy, Sierra, Savannah, Olivia, Georgia, Dan II.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 5, 2018, 4 to 8 p.m., in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East St., where morning prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, in St. Roch Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
