Rev. Richard C. “Dick” Gilaspy
Dick passed into the arms of his beloved savior Jesus on December 26, 2020, at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, after having served from 1956 through 1998 as pastor and Bible teacher at Baptist churches in Indiana, Michigan and Washington state. He was founding pastor of Burge Terrace Baptist Church in Indianapolis. Dick graduated from Butler University, received his Masters from Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary, and studied for a doctorate at California University Graduate School of Theology. Extended training included the Narramore School of Counseling in California. For 14 years he hosted a daily radio program in Indiana and Michigan reviewing Christian books. After retirement, he continued to fulfill his desire and passion for teaching the Bible until health issues two years ago caused him to very reluctantly end that life-long love. Dick was an exceptional teacher, and treasured every opportunity to share his knowledge and wisdom with the many who appreciated his clarity.
He is survived and will be missed by Sharon, his second wife of 22 years who deeply loved him; daughters Kimberly Cvetich, Bethany Williamson, Rebecca Schenk, Joy Patrick, and Elizabeth Gilaspy; stepchildren Reed and Ray Moistner, Kathleen Wubben, and Amy Smay; sister Marilyn; brother and sister-in-law Larry and Cathie Gilaspy; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Bonnie Gilaspy. He was preceded in death by parents Horace and Virginia Gilaspy; first wife Margaret; brother Robert; and brother-in-law DeVon Garman.
Because of Covid, services at O'Riley Funeral Home on December 30 at 11:00 a.m. will be private. The funeral will be live streamed on the O'Riley YouTube channel by visiting www.ORileyFuneralHome.com. A celebration of life gathering will follow in May.
