Richard P. Bowling DDS, 86 of Indianapolis, died Tuesday, February 27, 2024. He was born November 20, 1937, in Seymour, Indiana to Fred and Ora Gilkey Bowling.
Richard graduated from Xavier University and Indiana University School of Dentistry. He was a lifetime member of the Indianapolis District Dental Society, Indiana Dental Association, American Dental Association, and an original member of the Perry Township Dental Study Club.
Richard faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy, where he was a Navy Dental Officer. He was the owner of Richard Bowling DDS, retiring in 2002. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, where he was a member of the choir and was a cantor for funeral masses.
Richard was an avid reader, enjoyed a good Manhattan, and enjoyed traveling with his wife after his retirement. He enjoyed meeting up with his buddies once a month for breakfast. He will be remembered for being a character.
On December 27, 1958, he married the love of his life Perley Ann Schoettle Bowling, she precedes him in death along with his parents and siblings Jane Gariety, Don Bowling, Anne Rick, and Mary Durbin. He leaves his legacy to his family; Thomas (Susan) Bowling, Philip (Maureen) Bowling, Fredrick (Donna) Bowling, Paul (Ann Marie) Bowling, Theresa “Terri” (David) Rodreguez, brother Jack Bowling, grandchildren Collin, Hillary, Delaney, Quinn, Donovan, Madison, Corbin, Cassidy, Dawson, Emma, Will, Anna and Joshua, great grandchildren JoJo, Drew, Rosie, Brighton and Callen, and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation for Richard will be Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at O’Riley-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 610 S. East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. Morning prayers will be on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 9:45 AM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM at St. Mark Catholic Church, 535 Edgewood, Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
