Ruth S. Allen

Ruth S. Allen, age 94, beloved wife of Donald M. Allen (deceased) completed her days on earth on October 3, 2016. Her life was marked by loving service to her husband of 72 years, family, friends and community. Her lively interest in people and knowledge, her solid commitment to living out her faith and personal values, her generosity in sharing knowledge and her warmth are lasting gifts to all whose lives she touched. Although Ruth will be deeply missed, we rejoice in her life that was so beautifully lived. She was committed to constantly learning more and completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees after her children were independent. For many years she shared the gift of knowledge as a teacher at St. Mark Grade School and Greenwood Middle School. After her retirement she served as a docent for the Indianapolis Art Museum and volunteered serving the needy through the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She and her husband were founding members of St. Mark Catholic Church and remained quite active in the parish until their deaths. Ruth is survived by her son, John Paul Allen (Jo Ann) and their daughter Julanne Ruth; Victoria Jean Musick (John) and their children Elizabeth, Katherine, John Jr. and Margaret; the children of her son James Francis Allen (deceased) Jay, Jennifer, Jeffrey and John; 20 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church, 535 East Edgewood Ave, Indianapolis, IN on Friday October 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be Thursday October 6, 2016 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S US Hwy 31, Indianapolis, IN 46227 with recitation of the Rosary and a brief wake service at 6: 30 p.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
