Indianapolis

Sam L. Adams, a devoted Christian and family man, passed away at the age of 87 on April 23, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Sam was born on December 24, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana. After graduating from Emmerich Manual High School, Class of 1955, Sam honorably served in the United States Army Signal Corps as a cryptologist. He furthered his education at IUPUI and went on to serve as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years.

Sam’s dedication and exceptional work ethic extended beyond his professional life. He loved the United States of America and was very patriotic. Known for his kind and humble nature, he enjoyed gardening and cooking alongside his beloved wife and daughter, Sarah. Sam brought life, beauty, and joy to outdoor surroundings and family gatherings. His gentle personality has left a lasting impact on those around him.

After retirement, Sam enjoyed spending the winter months with his dear wife on Marco Island, Florida, where he took great joy in the beaches and basking in the warmth and sunshine. Cooking was a passion he cherished, often sharing his unique dishes with family and friends. Sam was a huge fan of IU and Pacers basketball, Colts football, and Red Sox baseball, a love he shared with his son, David. Additionally, Sam delighted in solving crossword puzzles and reading novels. His accepting and sociable nature enabled him to welcome strangers with open arms, generously offering to help whenever needed.

As a proud member of the Masonic community, Sam found camaraderie at the Masonic Lodge #679 in Bargersville, Indiana. He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite. His commitment to service and compassion for others will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Sam L. Adams and his loving wife, Brenda (Kidwell) Adams enjoyed 46 wonderful years of marriage. They were true partners in love and life. From their union, they share two children: David (Monica) Adams and Sarah (Rodger) Adams. Sam dearly loved his sons Robert (Allyson) Adams, Todd (Lorrie) Adams, John (Dagma) Adams, Steve (Jessie) Adams, and daughter Nancy (Jeff) Minnick; 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and brother, Richard (Jackie) Adams.

Sam is preceded in death by his grandson, Alexander Adams.
