Sidney A. Carty

August 17, 1970 — December 28, 2024

Indianapolis

Sidney (Sid) Allen Carty Jr., 54, died at 8:14 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital’s Heart Center in Indianapolis. He was born on August 17, 1970, in Toledo, Ohio, to Sidney A. Carty (May 25, 1934 - January 13, 2019) and Evelyn (Stiltner) Carty (January 7, 1936 - July 25, 2023). In his teenage years, he was driven to follow ’80s Hair Nation Bands such as Bon Jovi, Damn Yankees, Scorpions, Skid Row, Guns N’ Roses, etc. through concerts and listening on the radio while traveling in the car. Following his lifelong talent for repairing anything, he fixed and collected motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, dirt bikes, and snowmobiles. When Sid wasn’t in his garage, he was out in nature fishing and hunting the time away.

He began his career in HVAC-R at Horizon Services in Lima, Ohio, as a serviceman. Sid became a journeyman building on his college and trade school background and worked at three major national mechanical companies, DEEM LLC, Edwards Electrical & Mechanical, and HBA, Inc.

In 1997, he met Renee Michelle DePew in Fort Wayne, Indiana; they continued to talk through telephone calls and letters since she lived in Indianapolis and he was in Lima. They soon fell in love and got engaged in 1998. On January 1, 2000, they married at First Presbyterian Church of Kendallville, Kendallville, Indiana. They went on to have three children.

In 2007, Sid had a major motorcycle accident, leaving his left leg, hip, and abdomen paralyzed: causing those body parts to have Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy/Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Later, in 2020, he had three heart attacks consecutively in January. He stayed in the hospital during that year with organ failure. While on dialysis, he received a newly implanted Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) in his heart: keeping him alive for four more years.

Although his heart ultimately failed, his true character never died. His humor and continuous kind heart that never stopped was loved by all who knew him. From the day he was born until he died, he never stopped cracking jokes and being as straightforward as any hard-working man would. He was and will be remembered as a provider, lover, and person whose soul will live forever.

Sid is survived by: his wife, Renee Carty; two older sisters, Wanda (Michael) Michaelivich, of Swanton, Ohio, and Donna Lawniczak of Bowling Green, Ohio; three of his four children, Derek (Jessica) Carty, of Monon, Indiana; Arlan Carty and Morgan Carty, of Indianapolis; sister-in-laws Robin Fuhrman of Avilla, Indiana, and Lori Bowman of Peoria, Illinois; many nieces and nephews, Sara (Rob) Klopfenstein, Michael Michealivich, Larry Lawniczak Jr., Adam (Sarah) Lawniczak, Heidi (Wes) Spencer, Nick (Christine) Fuhrman, Philip Bowman, Liz (Tyler) Wetzel, Faith (Alex) Moser, Jakeb Bowman, and Grace Bowman; grandmother-in-law, Edna (Gram) Heathers, of Avilla; and his beloved dog, Dixie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife’s parents, Robert and Linnea DePew; his son, Brett Carty; a sister-in-law, LeeAnn DePew; and a brother-in-law, Steve Fuhrman.
