William Theodore (Ted) Robinette was born December 3, 1935, in McClellandtown, PA, a coal mining town south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Ted's father served in the Army, and in 1949 his family was sent to Frankfurt, Germany where he attended the Frankfurt American High School. After three years his family returned to the U.S. where he attended Franklin High School, graduating in 1953. He attended Franklin College for one year prior to joining the U.S. Army for two years and serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. He returned to Franklin College and graduated in 1957. In 1959, he married Marilyn DuValle, a teacher at Franklin High School. He then enrolled at the I.U. Law School. In addition to attending law school he worked as a Claims Adjuster for Allstate Insurance. Upon graduating from law school in 1963 he opened his own private practice until joining the Law Firm of Bulen and Castor where he practiced for 26 years.
Ted was an active member of the Republican Party in Marion County during the days of Richard Lugar, Bill Hudnut, and the Ronald Regan Era when Keith Bulen was Republican Party Chairman. He was an active leader of the Perry Township Republican Party serving as Ward Chairman for many years. He later opened a private practice and shared office space with the law firm of Haggerty, Haggerty, and Maschmeyer on Indy’s south side until his appointment as Commissioner in the Criminal Division of the Marion County Superior Court where he served until his retirement in 2005.
Ted is survived by his wife Marilyn, his children Greg Robinette (Tina) of Bowling Green, OH, Julie Mendez of Fishers, IN, Becky Reinhart (Greg) of South Lebanon, OH, Brad Robinette of Indianapolis, IN, and Amy Harris (Rob) of Indianapolis, IN, grandchildren Grace, Hannah, Andrew and Matt Robinette, Morgan and Madison Lawrence, Spencer and Sofia Mendez, Katherine and Brenna Magee, and step-grandchildren Corrine and Jameson Harris. He is also survived by his sister Bonnie Madley. He passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017.
There will be a calling at St. Barnabas Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Monday, July 17, 2017, followed by a prayer service at 12:00 pm on Monday at the church. Care and cremation arrangements are entrusted to the Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street (U.S. Hwy. 31 South), Indianapolis.
