Thomas "Thom" J. Greene

Thomas “Thom” J. Greene, 71 of Beech Grove, died peacefully, surrounded by his family at home on Thursday, May 19, 2022. He was born August 17, 1950 in Coleman Hospital to Francis Thomas and Dorothy Katherine Wilcox Greene.

Thom graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School. At an early age, Thom heard the call to serve and protect his community and became a cadet for the Indianapolis Police Department. He later became a police officer for the city of Indianapolis, serving his beloved community for 34 years. He retired in 2004. After retiring, he was the director of SAFEM and security at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. He was also the director of security at Honda in Greensburg, Indiana, and he was currently a Program Director 1 for the State of Indiana Department of Child Services.

Thom had a strong Catholic Faith. He recited the rosary every day, and he was a faithful member of Holy Name Catholic Church. He was a member of the Monsignor Downey Knights of Columbus #3660 (Past Grand Knight); he held his 3rd degree at Monsignor Downey and his 4th degree at Bishop Chatard. Thom was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police #86 and several police related organizations. Thom was involved with his children and was active in the South Grove Elementary PTA, where he served as past president and supported the Beech Grove Band Boosters.

Thom enjoyed golfing, watching game shows with his sister-in-law, Carol, a good cigar, driving his “Honey Car,” and spending time on the “Sister Alacoque Retreat” in his backyard where he would talk with the birds. He loved performing magic tricks for his grandchildren and others. Thom will be remembered for always being happy and having a wonderful sense of humor. His biggest passion was his family.

Thom is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Belinda K. Greene, daughter Cristina M. Greene (Dawn M. Wagner), son Thomas J. Greene II (Megan), grandchildren Toni C. England, Monica Marie Thomas (Brandon), Justin X. England (Miranda), Madison P. Wagner, Miranda K. Greene and Jayde M. Welch, great-grandchildren Kinzley Jewell Thomas (Little Z), and Zoey Marie Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. Thom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald J. Greene.

The family will celebrate Thom’s life with a visitation Monday, May 23, 2022 from 4 – 8 pm at O’Riley Branson Funeral Service and Cremation, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis. There will be morning prayers Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at 9:45 am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at Holy Name Catholic Church, 89 North 17th Avenue, Beech Grove, Indiana. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery.

It is Thom’s wish for everyone to celebrate the way he lived, and not the way he died.
