William J. Bevan, 75, lifelong resident of Indianapolis and the official scorekeeper of the Indiana Pacers for 51 years, passed away December 8, 2020. Bill was born May 15, 1945, to the late William E. and Elinor (Stahl) Bevan. He married Sheryl (Ekren) on December 27, 1981, and she survives.
Bill graduated from Scecina Memorial High School in 1963. He worked for Allstate Insurance as the Office Operation Supervisor for 40 years and also was a substitute teacher for many years at Scecina during his retirement. Scecina was a large part of Bill’s life – he also helped coach basketball and football there. Although not a swimmer, he loved spending time at their home on East Lake in Nineveh, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and especially socializing. Bill was a Life Honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and quick wit by a loving family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Sheryl Bevan; daughter, Danielle Bevan; siblings, Judy (Jim) Moran, Nancy (Larry) Pullam, and Steve (Linda) Bevan; many nieces and nephews; a special young man who touched Bill’s life, Max Miranda.
In an effort to keep family and friends safe, all services will be held privately at St. Jude Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed on Monday, December, 14, 2020, 11 a.m., by visiting the O’Riley Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/orileyfuneralhome/. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Scecina Memorial Godparent/tuition assistance fund, 5000 Nowland Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46201.
