I love remembering Granny playing the card game spoons. She would get so competitive and there was always lots of laughter. I also loved how she would always win at arm wrestling.
Bonnie was always so good at listening and making friends. I was so excited to see her when we moved to Martinsville Ward in the Bloomington Stake. We loved getting to know Dutch Dunn and her son Ryan. When I was as out 12 years old, I will never forget going to Bonnie’s home where she, Coleen, and Kathy taught me how to use hot curlers and a curling iron to style my hair. How I appreciated them!
Granny is the best example of hard work for me. She was always up trying to get something done. She also made sure to always do it in style! A light bulb needs to be changed? She wears her heels. Some yard work needs to get done? Don’t worry, she had her heels! She was always so loving too. Every time we came to visit she would squeeze my cheeks and give me a big hug. I loved visiting her house!
I have so many great memories of Granny. Some of my earliest ones include spending time at the apartment above Shimp Optical and lighting sparklers in the parking lot. Then there were so many great times at the house in Martinsville when we gathered as family and with cousins. But one of my favorite things about her which I never want to forget was how she could always make you feel special, smart, handsome, or beautiful, and how proud she was of me [and all her grandkids]. I can still hear her in her own type of southern drawl saying “Oh Jackie, that’s amazing!” whether it be for a sketch I made when I was 10 or for some physical therapy advice when I was 30. Her unconditional love gave me confidence and courage throughout my life.
I have so many memories of Bonnie from going to the movies with her and Dutch to clogging. Yes Bonnie and I took clogging lessons together. She was quite the go getter. She had a smile that would light a room. Last time I saw her was abt a month ago at the post office mailing things out, we gave each other a big hug. She loved all her children. Colleen and Ryan my heart goes out to you and your siblings. I loved her so much.
