Josephine "Jo" (Spicuzza) Hartman Healy

Josephine “Jo” (Spicuzza) Hartman Healy, 94, a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, passed away at her residence on February 26, 2022. Jo was born on May 5, 1927, to the late August and Rosa (Mascari) Spicuzza. She grew up in the heart of Indianapolis, one of seven children, learning the values of hard work, faith, and family as she assisted in her family’s produce stand at the Indianapolis City Market, Spicuzza Co. Along with her family, Jo attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church; she graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1945.

Jo’s hardworking spirit led her to have a successful tenure with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis as the Associate Director of Catholic Social Services/Catholic Charities; Jo retired in 1990 after 25 years of service. A cradle Catholic, Jo’s faith was paramount in her life. She was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church where she was active in the widow’s group. Jo’s faith allowed her to have a positive and loving spirit with a generous heart, always ready to lend a hand to those in need or her elderly relatives. In her retirement, she was a proud caregiver.

A very artistic lady, Jo was a proud charter member and past president of the Southside Art League. She particularly enjoyed oil painting. When not painting or at church, Jo enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her precious grandchildren. She will be remembered for her sweet sense of humor that could lighten nearly any situation. Her kindness, warmth, and humor will be pieces of her spirit that each of her loved ones will carry on in her memory.

Along with her parents, Jo was preceded in death by husbands, Paul A. Hartman and Timothy P. Healy; her daughter, Antoinette (Hartman) Hendricks Boots and son-in-law, Tim Boots; her siblings, Lawrence (Louise) Spicuzza, Fr. Anthony Spicuzza (Annunciation Catholic Church), Gus (Betty) Spicuzza, Paul Spicuzza; and brother-in-law, Danny Below.

Survivors include her children, Rosanna (Tim) Frye, Paul (Audrey) Hartman, and Katherine Hartman; grandchildren, Christine (Timothy) Uhl, Joanna (Dave) Brown, Will (Kim) Hendricks, Michelle (Adam) Kasch, and Joseph Hartman; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Elizabeth Brown, Lilly and Charles Kasch, and Ethan Hartman; her sisters, Anna Marie Below and Rosemary (David) Page; sister-in-law, Maggie Spicuzza; a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members.

Jo’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be held Friday, March 4, 2022, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Road, Indianapolis, with the Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 AM in the church.
