John T. Morand

August 11, 1956 ~ June 30, 2021
John T. Morand, 64, of Whiteland, passed away at his residence surrounded by his loved ones on June 30, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. John was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late John L. and Mary E. (Gross) Morand. On May 30, 2009 John wed Julia L. “Julie” (Kahle) Morand in St. Barnabas Catholic Church; Julie survives.
A man devoted to his faith; John was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Indianapolis where he enjoyed being active in the parish. When not active at church, John enjoyed being outside. He loved to fish, travel, especially on motorcycle trips, and golf. Above all, John truly loved doing these things alongside his family.
John was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, College of Applied Sciences. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management and an Associate of Science degree in Building Construction Technology in 1978 from the university.
John went on to be an extremely dedicated and successful construction superintendent for numerous companies throughout his career. He began working for Turner in Indianapolis in 1979. In May of 1997 he became employed with Smoot Construction and was involved in notable projects such as the Chrysler Transmission Plant in Kokomo and FedEx. In February of 2000 John began to work for Shiel Sexton where he supervised projects for The Children’s Museum and the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library. John was most recently employed by Meyer Najem where he completed two construction projects that he was incredibly proud of, the Veteran’s Affairs Outpatient Centers in both Jacksonville and Tallahassee, Florida.
Despite having an extensive career and work history, John was a humble man who believed his greatest accomplishment was his family and the unconditional love he was able to experience through each of them. John leaves behind a tremendous legacy to his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Julia L. “Julie” (Kahle) Morand; his son, Timothy M. (Sara) Morand; his step children, Amanda Krutz, David Krutz, Erin Grube, and Kelly Grube; his grandchildren, Max and Chloe Morand, Kaleb Limp, Madilynn Krutz, and Sam Krutz; his siblings, Patrick (Joan) Morand, Judith (Chuck) Fink, and Dennis (Amy) Morand; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and numerous friends and colleagues.
Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Morand.

John brought a new chapter of love into the lives of Julie and her children. The Denver Bible Study group sensed a new happiness in Julie with John as her husband. In the years since, we have seen their love grow and positively affect those who knew them. John was a wonderful example of a man who sincerely followed Jesus.
Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.
With our deepest sympathy

My deepest condolences to John’s family at this sad time. I have many fond memories: John’s hole-in-one in Wisconsin, going to Cincinnati to see Tim in a bathrobe on stage in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” John building a tree house for Grace, and picking up discarded change during his morning walks and then donating his accumulated findings. The obituary is lovely and captures his spirit. May his memory be a blessing to you all. Joan
To the Morand family, I am so sorry to hear of John’s passing. I worked with John on both the Jacksonville and Tallahassee Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinics. John managed to bring a sense of calm to both projects which is a tribute to his professionalism and abilities as a leader. I will especially miss his unique sense of humor. He went to great lengths to ensure the team remembered to laugh during the many stressful moments that go into constructing these facilities. We will miss you on our next clinic John. I pray you will be watching and guiding us from above. I hope we do you proud.
