Barbara J. O'Connor

.Barbara J. (Olson) O’Connor was born December 4, 1928 to Edwin Olson and Mary (Kiely) Olson, and passed away on February 22, 2018. Barb was born and raised in Waterbury, CT. While attending night school she met her husband of 59 years, Tom (Bud) O’Connor. Together they raised six children, Tommy, Brian, Karen, Kathy, Kevin and Ann. She spent many years at the job she did best, being a mom. Barb re-entered the work force when she was elected the treasurer of the town of Prospect, CT. She held that position until a transfer moved the family to Indiana. It is there that she finished raising the last of their six kids before retiring to Florida. Both Barb and Bud became very active with the Knights of Columbus, Council #6241, in Stuart, Florida. She spent many hours preparing and packaging meals for those less fortunate and working Bingo. Having a flare for decorating, Barb most enjoyed decorating the hall for special events. However, Barb’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family. Their move to Florida provided a vacation home for all. She welcomed everyone, whether it was a surprise visit or a planned visit, she always made you feel at home.

After thirty years in sunny Florida and the passing of her husband, Barb decided it was time to move back to Indiana to be with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, her prides and joy. Barb soon became the envy of her apartment building with her outdoor family gatherings. Many neighbors would be watching and smiling at the sounds and sights of laughter, music and kids playing.

Now Barb is dancing with Bud and Brian in her eternal home. May the sound of happy music, and the lilt of Irish laughter fill your heart with gladness that stays forever after. Rest in peace and may the joy and peace of our Lord surround you now and forever!

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Tom (Bud) and son Brian. She is survived by her children Tom O’Connor (Tracy), Karen Sherman (Jeff), Kathy Leck (Chuck), Kevin O’Connor (Becky), Ann Cermack (Rick). Nine grandchildren- JT, Carl, Erin, Christopher, Kiely, Brian, Bailey, Breona and Shayla, fourteen great grandchildren, niece Terri Zainc, and nephews Tom Boiano and Rick Hoethke.

A funeral mass will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2905 Carson Ave., Indianapolis 46203, on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at 11:00 am. Care and arrangements are entrusted to the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis. Visit www.OrileyFuneralHome.com where you may express online condolences to the O’Connor family.

  3. I am so sorry to hear of the death of Barbara. The passing away of a loved one is always with much sorrow. May we have faith and confidence in the Bible’s promise of a time when pain, sickness and death are a thing of the past (Revelation 21:3, 4). My condolences are with the family at this difficult time.
