Mary Catherine Schmoll

Mary C Schmoll, age 88, of Indianapolis, IN died October 5, 2025, in Peoria, Illinois with family at her bedside. She was born on January 31, 1937, to Bernard and Mary Isabelle (Kearney) Fougerousse. She attended St. Agnes Academy of Indianapolis, operated by the Sisters of Providence. She retired from Eli Lilly and Company after 38 years of dedicated service. While working full-time, she attended night school at the University of Indianapolis pursuing a laboratory technician degree.

She volunteered for many years at her church, served her community, and was kind to everyone she met. Never shy to help a stranger, her generosity and care for others was endless towards anyone facing hardship. She loved spending time with family and was known for her family leadership skills and calming spirit. She enjoyed traveling after retirement, croqueting, and cooking for her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don, (October 1, 1995), parents, and siblings George, Nicholas, Edward, Jessie, Phillip, and Martha Fougerousse.

She is survived by her son Steven Schmoll, and her daughter Mary Cooley (Dan), brothers; Joseph (Sally), Bernie, sister Rita Martin, three granddaughters; Alicia Cooley (Nick Posawatz), Diane Cooley (Omar Turk), Danielle Cooley, and great-grandson Anton. She is additionally survived by sisters-in-law; Barbara Fougerousse, Polly Fougerousse and Cindy Fougerousse along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the emergency room healthcare staff at OSF Hospital, OSF Home Health Care, and the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home of Peoria Illinois for their dedicated service.

Visitation will be held on October 14, 2025, at O’Riley-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory from 10:00am-10:45am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church (535 E. Edgewood Ave., Indianapolis, Indiana 46227) at 11:00am, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Mary’s honor can be made to: Wheeler Mission (205 East New York St., Indianapolis, Indiana, 46204) Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
