Mary D. Stapp, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, in her home in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 86. Mary was born on June 21, 1939, in Indianapolis, to the late Henry and Goldie Ivory, Mary spent her life radiating love, kindness, and warmth to all who knew her.

Mary dedicated much of her younger years to raising her children, pouring her heart and soul into nurturing her family. In her professional life, she contributed as a quality control worker for PR Mallory. Yet, it was at home, surrounded by those she loved, where she truly shone. The happiest moments of her life were spent with her family gathered under one roof, sharing laughter and joy during the holiday seasons of Christmas and Thanksgiving. Known for her exceptional cooking skills, she often delighted her family with delicious meals that brought them all together, filling not just their stomachs, but their hearts.

Mary’s strong educational foundation began with her graduation from Sacred Heart in 1958, a testament to her commitment to learning and personal growth. Throughout her life, she remained a pillar of strength, known for her fun-loving spirit and generous nature. Mary was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her unwavering faith guided her actions, allowing her to impact the lives of many as a devoted parishioner at St. Jude for over sixty years.

She met and married the love of her life, Lilburn Stapp, and together they created a beautiful life filled with love and laughter for a remarkable sixty years, leaving behind a legacy of unity and devotion. Mary was deeply proud of her role as a loving wife, mother, and grandma, treasures that were evident in every interaction she had with her family.

In her leisure time, Mary enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, and bringing people together in her home. Her heart was big enough to encompass everyone, and she loved to share her passion by volunteering for Meals on Wheels and St. Vincent DePaul, as well as assisting with mercy meals at St. Jude Catholic Church. Her selfless spirit and willingness to serve will leave a lasting impact on her community, as she continuously strived to uplift others.

Mary is survived by her children; Jeffrey (Connie) Stapp, Lisa (Marty) Lowery, and Nancy (Danny) Smith, grandchildren; Carrie Stapp, Dustin (Allyson) Stapp, Daniel Lowery, Jessica (Anderson) Tovar Lowery, Nicole Burch, and Miranda Smith, along with 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Mary is preceded in death by the love of her life; Lilburn Stapp, brother; Bernard Ivory, and sister; Lelah Young.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 2:00pm-5:00pm at O’Riley-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, November 17, 2025, at St. Jude Catholic Church on at 10:00am, with burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery.

Mary D. Stapp leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and generosity that will be cherished by all who had the privilege to know her. She will be profoundly missed but warmly remembered for her endless compassion, her vibrant spirit, and, most importantly, the indelible mark she left on the hearts of her family and friends.
