Harry Joseph Rail, age 86, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Harry was born on August 1, 1939, to Harry and Mary (Griffin) Rail.

Harry attended St. Philip Neri Catholic Grade School and Scecina Memorial High School, where he was a proud member of the first graduating class in 1957. He later attended Indiana Business College. On November 24, 1962, he married the love of his life, Judith Holton Row.

Harry owned and operated an insurance agency for more than 45 years, faithfully serving clients throughout central Indiana. He was also a member of the Indiana National Guard, where he served as a helicopter radio operator. Deeply committed to his community, Harry was involved with several organizations, including Southside Sertoma, the Knights of Columbus, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He also generously volunteered his time at Cathedral High School sporting events.

Harry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Harry and Mary Rail; his brothers, John (Toni) Rail and James Rail; and his sister, Ann (Michael) McGuire. He was welcomed into eternal rest by these loved ones and many others as he met his Creator.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 63 years, Judith Rail; his children, Harry (Jina) Rail of Indianapolis, Anna Maria (Gary) Spurgin of Greenfield, and Eric (Amanda) Rail of Indianapolis; and his grandchildren, Bridgette Rail, Rebecca (Marshall) Gaw, Logan (Ethan) Blackstone, Harry Rail, Alex Rail, Griffin Spurgin, Eliza Rail, Max Rail, Madison Summers, and Dylan (Shelby) Summers. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, along with several adored nephews, beloved cousins, and cherished friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Nativity Catholic Church, 7225 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46239. A eulogy and Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church.

  1. Anna Maria, I am sorry but I won’t be able to come today your Dads funeral metal. My granddaughter is making her first communion that day so in Franklin. The mass is at 11:00. I will be praying for your Dad and family at this mass.🙏🙏❤️❤️.

  2. I miss the good old days when Harry, Dave Felts, Joe Lyons and I would play football in the Rural Street alley behind my house and Dave’s house. Those days, growing up together, were great memories! God bless the Rails.
