Steven W. Heiden, 56, of Indianapolis

The world lost a remarkable soul on August 10th, 2026, with the passing of Steve W. Heiden. Born on October 2nd, 1969, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Larry & Barbara Heiden. Steve’s journey was one filled with laughter, love, and immeasurable joy—a legacy that his family, friends, and all who knew him will carry close to their hearts forever.

Steve grew up between the neighborhoods and memories of Lafayette, Indiana and Brookfield, Wisconsin. It was during these formative years that the traits of loyalty, kindness, and boundless humor began to shine through. He graduated from Brookfield Central High School in Brookfield, Wisconsin, and then continued to pursue knowledge and passion at Purdue University in West Lafayette, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in communications. His academic achievements were only the beginning foundation for a life spent connecting with others in the most genuine of ways.

For thirty years, Steve dedicated his hard work and spirit to UPS. During those decades, he didn’t just excel in his career, earning the rare honor of 25 years of safe driving—but also forged deep and lasting friendships. His customers & coworkers became his second family, drawn together by his camaraderie, wit, and unwavering willingness to lend a hand. It is here that so many recall Steve’s unique humor, his knack for “dad jokes,” his infectious smile, and his steadfast positivity—a man who, given any task or challenge, would leap in with unmatched work ethic and compassion.

Steve was just Steve—unapologetically himself and proud to stand apart from the crowd. He never compromised his personality or values, and those around him cherished him for exactly who he was: a caring, loyal, and endlessly giving friend and family man. He was affectionately described as a “goofball,” yet amid all his silliness, Steve’s love and devotion to his beloved wife, Elaine, and their family, were constants nobody ever questioned. “Whatever you want,” he would say to Elaine—a simple phrase yet spoken with unwavering sincerity and full heart. For his children, he was their safe haven, a strong yet gentle presence, always ready with a bear hug or words of encouragement. For his parents, there simply could not have been a better son—his hugs, a shield of warmth and strength.

His playful spirit touched every part of his life. Whether fishing or spending time on the water, coaching all three of his children in volleyball, or telling stories in his boisterous style, Steve brought pure joy to every gathering. He loved spending time with his kids and grandbabies, sharing movie nights with Christmas music ringing out loud, or cuddling with his dogs and grand dogs. Sweet treats and a good nap were ever turned down. Shooting guns or sharing laughter at the expense of his own “dad jokes”, Steve’s joy in life was infectious, his laughter echoing in the memories of those he touched.

Steve’s greatest pride, though, wasn’t found in accomplishments, but in the people around him. His coworkers and customers always looked forward to his cheerful attitude and daily quips, while his friends and family knew that his love and care were unshakable. He never missed an opportunity to say, “I love you,” to offer a massive embrace, or to simply be present in the moments that really mattered.

There are not enough words to capture the scale of Steve’s heart or the size of his laughter, but the brightness of his memory will endure for all those fortunate enough to have shared in his life. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, selflessness, devotion, and above all, a loving spirit that refused to dim, even on the hardest days.

Steve is survived by his loving wife; Elaine, children; Karlie (Jacob) Fulton, Kate Therese (Dylan Gehring) Heiden, and Andrew Heiden, grandchildren; Finn & Keagan Fulton, parents; Larry & Barbara Heiden, along with sister; Karen (Richard) Pedigo.

Steve is preceded in death by his sister-in-law; Maureen Maddox, Neice; Amanda Tames, and nephews; Matthew Williams & Benjamin Maddox, and in-laws Carl & Jean Williams.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 1:00pm-4:00pm at O’Riley-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory (6107 S. East St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46227). Mass will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 10:00am at St. Jude Catholic Church (5353 McFarland Rd., Indianapolis, Indiana 46227). Burial will be immediately following at Calvary Cemetery.

Steve W. Heiden will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who had the privilege to know and love him. May we honor his memory by carrying forward the generosity, joy, and affection he so freely gave.
