Michael Scott Steadman

December 24, 1958 ~ October 7, 2026

Born in: Louisville, Kentucky
Resided in: Indianapolis, Indiana

Michael Scott Steadman passed away on October 7, 2026, at the age of 67. Michael was born on December 24, 1958, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late William Sr. & Joyce Steadman. Michael lived a life marked by warmth, energy, and deep devotion to the people and pursuits he loved.

Michael loved hard and played hard. He was kind, gentle, and loving, and his remarkable intelligence was matched by an easy way with others. He never met a stranger, and those who knew him will remember the openness of his spirit and the genuine connection he brought to every conversation.

Some of Michael’s happiest moments were spent on the golf course with his wife Leslie and his family. From his younger years, when he could often be found skipping school to head to the nearest course, golf remained a lasting joy throughout his life. He also loved riding his Harley when the weather was nice and enjoyed time at the gun range. These interests reflected his sense of freedom, adventure, and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Michael also carried great pride in his accomplishments. He was a member of the Presidential Marching Band during the Jimmy Carter administration, an experience that remained especially meaningful to him. Just as important to him was the role he played in the lives of his children. He was always involved, giving his time and heart as a soccer coach and as a proud Boy Scout leader. His presence, encouragement, and steady involvement left a lasting mark on those he guided and loved. He loved the Indiana Pacers & the St. Louis Cardinals.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 14 years; Leslie Steadman, children; Brady (Jacksyn) Steadman, Brittney (Alec) Steadman, Bailey (Matthew) Cockerham, and Trevor (Kayla) Ashley, grandsons; Sawyer Leland Steadman, and Sabastian Xavier Mason, his 4 legged baby; Sassy Maria, brother; William (Yvonna) Steadman Jr, sister-in-law; Stephanie (Brian) Drown, mother & father-in-law; Larry and Mary Ann Taylor, nieces; Jennifer Schoonover, and Alicia Driscoll, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at O’Riley-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory (6107 South East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227) from 4:00pm-7:00pm. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Mike was like a brother to me, especially during our years playing softball together! He was a great person!

  2. Mike was a genuine good spirit. He had a megawatt smile that would light up a room. He had a great sense of humor. But most importantly he cared about his friends and coworkers like they were family. I loved seeing how much Leslie and him made for each other smile and you have not met quite a proud dad as Mike talking about his kids. May your memory burn light and long my friend. Go rest high.

  3. Leslie and Family, so sorry to hear about Mike’s passing. I grew up next to him and have great memories of those days. Prayers for peace and comfort for you during this difficult time.

  4. There is no nicer man than Mike. He loved his family more than anything. They were all his whole world. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be missed but the memories he left all of us will last a lifetime till we see him again. Love you Mike.

  5. Sending condolences to the whole family. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. My heart goes out to all of you as you navigate through this difficult time.

  6. We are so sorry to hear about Mike’s passing! Although it’s been years since we were neighbors, our memories of Mike’s kindness and helpfulness are still with us. Prayers for you, Leslie, and your children for comfort and support in this trying time of loss. May he rest in peace and in the loving arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ, Whom I know Mike deeply trusted and loved.

  7. I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. I worked with Mike many years ago & he always made me laugh. He adored Leslie & was so proud of his children. He had a great spirit & will definitely be missed.

  8. I met Mike when he worked at the Princeton Daily Clarion in the circulation department. He was a hard worker who had a great smile and a fantastic sense of humor. I never heard him complain about anything. He was an all around good kid.
    Condolences to his family.

  9. Our condolences to Leslie, Bill and all of the Steadman family on the loss of Mike. He was a great neighbor, would do anything for anyone, and was always willing to help if Fred needed something. We never had to worry about our property because Mike was a great watchdog. We will miss him greatly, but we know that he is with Jesus, His Lord, and he surely heard, “Well done, good and faithful servant” as he stepped into eternity.
We’ll miss you, Mike, and will be there for Leslie, should she need anything. We’re blessed to have been able to know you as our neighbor and friend.
    Love in Christ. 💜💜🙆🏻‍♀️👑✝️📖🕊️💜💜

  10. We are so very sorry to hear about his passing. He was a great man and father. He was also a great coach to my daughter’s basketball team. Our condolences to the family.

  11. I played some basketball, softball and golf with Mike and his brother Bill. Mike’s sense of humor was infectious. He was a great competitor who encouraged others to have fun while playing. I’m sorry that we lost touch because I enjoyed his company. Deepest condolences to all of his family and friends.
