Ann Raja, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 89. She was born to the late Walter and Edna O’Connor in Kankakee, Illinois on July 23, 1935, Ann dedicated a significant part of her life to a noble career as an emergency room surgical nurse. Her greatest joy, however, surfaced later in her career when she found her niche working closely with Dr. Fortuna, where each day brought her fulfillment and satisfaction.
Ann’s warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew her. She was a devoted member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church, where she was proud to be a Charter Member for 60 years, reflecting her deep-rooted faith and commitment.
Family was the centerpiece of Ann’s life, and she took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She poured her heart into finding unique gifts for each of them, creating lasting memories and sentimental treasures that they would carry through their lives. Her influence extended beyond gifts; she often shared her love through the delicious meals prepared during family dinners, where laughter and love filled the air.
A true lover of nature, Ann found solace in her yard. She reveled in planting trees, often giving each one a name honoring a family member, reflecting her deep appreciation for her loved ones. She delighted in feeding the birds that graced her yard, though she would often find herself amusingly frustrated by the squirrels who would sneak in to pilfer their food.
Ann’s creative spirit also flourished in her home, where she fashioned beautiful interiors as a self-taught decorator. A “fashionista” in every sense, she created a wardrobe that exuded her vibrant personality and style.
Travel brought Ann joy, especially the winters spent at St. Pete’s Beach in Florida with her husband, Vince. The beach was undoubtedly her happy place, where she cherished serene walks along the shore, soaking in the beauty of the ocean’s waves.
Ann had a love for reading, which captivated her imagination and sparked many engaging conversations.
Ann is survived by her children; Kathleen Pugh, Vince (Sue) Raia, and Julie (Jon) Flickinger, grandchildren; Kristen (Steve) Fuson, Jeremy Pugh, Dustin (Kaylee) Pugh, Natalie Raia, Alexis Raia, Brooke Raia, Jacob (Rhiannon) Flickinger, Brynne Martin, and Arika Flickinger, great-grandchildren; Elias, Brax, Brant, Isla, June, and Alice Ann, siblings; Barry (Cathy) O’Connor, and Myra O’Connor, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ann is preceded in death by her loving husband; Vincent Raja, and brothers; Tom and Bob O’Connor, son-in-law; Brian Pugh, and her aunt Marge with whom she had a special bond.
Her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Ann’s beautiful spirit will be celebrated with a Visitation at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Indianapolis on June 6, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Calvary Cemetery.

Rest in peace Ann, you will be long remembered. Give a hug to cousin Vince and Harry and Dot, and a wave to Jules.
It was an honor to be part of the care team during her hospice journey. Everyone on the team loved Ann. Thank you for allowing us to come in and be part of this special and sacred time of her life. She will be missed.
Growing up I always looked at Uncle Vince and Aunt Ann as the most sophisticated and elegant people I knew. Her beauty and grace was equally matched by her sweet and kind heart. Will always remember what a hit she was walking into family Christmas Eve with an entire Shapiros strawberry cheesecake. Live and prayers to the family.
Ann was a dear friend of our family for so many years. When my parents had the yearly 500 race party Ann and Vince would always attend. I always loved talking to Ann she was a light that will never dim. The entire family is special to us thoughts and prayers to you all ❤️.
