Barbara J. Scheib, a beloved caregiver, devoted friend, and cherished family member, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, in Beech Grove, Indiana, at the age of 95. Barbara was born on June 23, 1930, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Fred & Alma Clements. Barbara’s life was a tapestry woven from her passion for nurturing children and her unwavering kindness towards everyone she encountered.

For most of her life, Barbara dedicated herself to the care of children, exemplifying a deep commitment to their well-being and development. Her career as a caregiver was much more than a job; it was a calling that brought her immense joy and satisfaction. Through her nurturing spirit, she left an indelible mark on countless young lives, teaching them lessons in kindness, compassion, and the importance of community.

Barbara’s zest for life extended beyond her work with children. Known for her competitive nature, she found joy and excitement in playing euchre and bingo, often emerging as the big winner in these lively games. Friends and family would fondly recall her joyful laughter and spirited competitiveness, which made every gathering brighter. She loved to cook for family and friends. Her most requested dish was her famous “The Salad,” which became a staple on every occasion thanks to her culinary touch.

Barbara’s love for people was evident in every aspect of her life. She reveled in entertaining guests in her home and fostering connections through gatherings. Her nurturing personality shone through not only in her work but also in her hobbies. An avid gardener, Barbara delighted in the beauty of nature. Crafting was another outlet for her creativity, showcasing her ability to transform simple materials into cherished keepsakes.

Barbara was very strong in her faith and a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church for over 50 years. Her community involvement was equally significant. Barbara took pride in her participation with the Marian Knights and played a vital role in The Daisy Guild at the Hermitage (Envive) in Beech Grove, where she also worked at the Gift Shop. Her contributions enriched the lives of those around her, as she prepared for parties and events with enthusiasm and love.

Barbara is survived by her nieces; Karen (Don) Beckwith, Beth Scheib, and Kathy (Byron) Elliott, nephew: Robert Scheib, dear friends; Kathy Huck, Erin (Jeff) Keller, Lexi Keller, and Danica Keller, along with many great nieces & nephews.

Barbara is preceded in death by her loving husband; John Scheib, beloved daughter; Susan M. Scheib, and her sister; Rosemary Clements.

Barbara’s family and friends would like to express their gratitude to the loving care she received over the years at the Hermitage (Envive).

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 9:30am-10:30am at St. Barnabas Catholic Church (8300 Rahke Rd., Indianapolis, Indiana, 46217). A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow in the church. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Memorial contributions in Barbara’s honor can be made to The St. Barnabas Library (8300 Rahke Rd., Indianapolis, Indiana, 46217) which was dedicated in loving memory of Susan M. Scheib. Envelopes will be provided at the church.
