Born in:
Brownsville, Texas
Resided in:
Indianapolis, Indiana
Carolyn Jo Lacey, 80, longtime Indianapolis resident, entered into eternal rest on January 12, 2026. Carolyn was born on March 17, 1945, in Brownsville, Texas, to the late Melvin A.C. and Rosie Bernice (Wind) Weatherholt. Carolyn was united in marriage to her loving husband, Gary, on December 31, 1977.
She grew up in Southport and attended Southport High School. Carolyn was an early hire at the former Lazarus store at the Greenwood Park Mall. She was employed there for 18 years and retired after having managed the gift wrap department. She was later employed at Von Maur when that store opened but retired again to pursue her fulltime vocation that she absolutely loved – being a Nana. Carolyn loved being a Nana and always made the extra effort to attend events that her grandchildren, Liam and Emabel have been involved with.
To say Carolyn was an Elvis fan is an understatement. She loved Elvis and was proud to have attended his last concert at Market Square Arena. She was an excellent cook and was often known to cook for her friends at Crestwood, where she and Gary have made many friends in more recent years. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and never turned down an opportunity to visit the casino. Carolyn was strong in her faith, and she and Gary attended various Baptist churches through the years. Above all, Carolyn was strongly devoted to her family. Carolyn will be fondly remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her kind and nurturing nature, and her ability to make friends.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her stepfather, Chester McHargue.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 48 years, Gary; daughter, Kristi (Nick Criggar) Lacey; grandchildren, Liam Gregory and Emabel Criggar.
Friends and family are invited to remember, honor, and celebrate the life of Carolyn Lacey on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. I will always be grateful to Carolyn for arranging the “blind double date” that introduced me to my future wife. Rest in heavenly bliss Carolyn.
