Dan Thompson, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was born on March 30, 1954, and passed away on October 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship, friendship, and cherished memories. Dan’s life was a rich tapestry woven with love for his craft, the outdoors, and his family.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 48 years; Nellie Thompson, and sisters; Darlene (Allan) Roberts and Carolle Kennedy and many family members.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents; Ralph and Thelma Thompson
Dan leaves behind a profound impact that resonates within the hearts of those who had the fortune to cross paths with him. His spirit lives on in the work he crafted, the friendships he nurtured, and the many lives he touched. We honor his memory and carry forward his legacy of love, dedication, and meticulous craftsmanship
A dedicated professional in the construction industry, Dan’s heart truly belonged to masonry. As a brick and stone mason, he mastered the art of his trade with an unwavering commitment to perfection that shone through in every project he undertook. His meticulous nature ensured that each job not only met but exceeded expectations, creating enduring structures that still stand as a testament to his skill and dedication.
Beyond his masonry work, Dan brought his entrepreneurial spirit to life by starting a lawn mowing and landscaping business whether by shaping the green spaces of others or by nurturing the beauty of his own yard.
Dan was known for his quiet demeanor and easy-going nature, and his great smile had a way of lighting up any room. A devoted fan of the Chicago Bears, he wore his team colors with pride, often donning shirts and jerseys that showcased his loyalty. Dan excelled at golf and bowling, earning accolades in multiple tournaments and achieving the remarkable feat of several perfect 300 games, a testament to his dedication and skill.
Yet, it was around the grill that Dan truly shined. Known as the “Grill Master,” he delighted in hosting cookouts, gathering friends and family to share delicious meals and laughter. Those precious moments spent together around good food and warm hearts were the highlights of his life, creating cherished memories that will endure in the minds of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Fairway Village for the compassionate loving care they provided Dan during his time there.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 12:00pm-1:00pm at O’Riley-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory (6107 South East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46227), with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 1:00pm in the funeral home. A private family burial will follow.
