Edwin A. Buergler

August 13, 1932 ~ December 27, 2024
Edwin A. Buergler, passed away on December 27, 2024, in his lifelong home of Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on August 13, 1932, Edwin lived a life steeped in passion and dedication. He was not only a self-employed general contractor but also a devoted family man.
Edwin's journey began in the city of Indianapolis. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1960, embodying a spirit of service that defined much of his life. This commitment to his country mirrored his approach to family—steadfast, loyal, and always ready to lend a hand.
Edwin found joy in hosting gatherings for family and friends. He cherished the times spent fishing, often embarking on trips across Canada, Wisconsin, and Michigan, with the thrill of the catch never fading bringing together family and friends.
Though his hobbies were many—rooting for the Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Reds and enjoying bowling on the Holy Name and Sacred Heart Bowling Team—none compared to the pride he took in his family. Edwin is remembered for his unwavering love, evident in the laughter shared with his wife of 66 years, Margaret Shea Buergler, and his daughters: Christine (Tim) Heavrin, Joanne (Dan) Keyler, Alice Ragsdale, and Catherine Buergler, sister Bea Clark. His warmth also radiated through his seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, who each carry a piece of his spirit within them.
Though he is mourned by family and friends alike, Edwin’s memory is cemented in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Francis and Ida Ann Ferry Buergler, and his brothers, Lou and Joe Buergler.
A visitation to honor Edwin's life will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, located at 6107 S East St, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate his life will take place on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Jude Catholic Church, 5353 McFarland Road, Indianapolis, IN 46227. Burial will follow at St. Joesph Cemetery.

Marge and girls I’m so sorry for your loss of Ed. He was a great guy and know he was the best husband and Father. I would’ve loved to have been with you to celebrate his long productive life. But we will be in Florida and unable to attend. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Duane

The name Eddie Buergler always brings a smile to my face. He did a lot of skilled carpentry work around our house when I was a kid (over 60 years ago). He was always so pleasant and nice, just like his friend, Irvin Kirch. Rest in Peace, Eddie.

I regret that I never got to know Uncle Ed well. Very much my loss. I only remember that every time I spent a little time with him he was always joyful and had a way of focusing on me, lifting me, showing genuine interest, making me feel special in his attentiveness. Now that I think back on it I believe that this was one of his a special gifts. I’m sure he was gifted in many more ways and, as I said, I deeply regret not experiencing more of what made him so special. To Aunt Margie, your warm heart and eternal selflessness made you two a perfect match. To Christy, Joanne, Alice and Cathy, regrettably we also were never as close as I would have liked, but from what I remember you were all just like you Mom and Dad, always kind, unselfish. To all of you I offer my love and deepest sympathy. Dave
Ed and my mom Joann Teipen Murphy were good friends beginning with the 1st grade at St Roch’s. Ed could do anything and helped mom with many improvements to the Teipen homestead on South Meridian Street. After mom passed (also on December 27!, 2007), Ed helped my brother and me with additional improvements. He was one of the kindest men I knew, always smiling. Praying for Margie, Bea and all of his family.
To GGrandma Bea Sorry to hear of your brother’s passing. It is hard to lose a loved one! Hope to see you again real soon! My sympathy. love from GGrandma Margie
