Elaine Ann Wilson, 84, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Greenwood, Indiana.

Elaine was born on July 9, 1941, in Helmer, Indiana, to Wayne W. Sprankle and Viola May (Allen) Sprankle. She lived a life centered on faith, family and service to others.

She graduated from Purdue University and worked for many years as an insurance underwriter with Farm Bureau, retiring in 2014. Elaine was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Indianapolis, where she was active in the arts and environmental committees and remained involved in parish life for many years.

Elaine enjoyed traveling, horseback riding, cooking and gardening, and had a lifelong love of history. She especially enjoyed genealogy research, colonial history and participating in living history and French and Indian War reenactments. She found great joy in learning about the past and sharing those interests with others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Wilson; her parents, Wayne W. Sprankle and Viola May Sprankle; and her brother, Warren W. Sprankle.

She is survived by her sons, Mark B. (Kathy) Wilson and Christopher Wilson; and by and by Gregory (Christi) St. Charles, Carol Wilson and James Michael Wilson, her brother, Robert Sprankle; and her grandchildren, Klause Karlson, Anthony (Sarah) Wilson, Kaitlyn (Andrew) Loy, Joanie Wilson and Anna Wilson. She is also survived by a great-grandchild expected in the coming months.

Elaine will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, strong faith and her dedication to taking care of those around her. She loved her family deeply and found great meaning in helping others, learning about history and sharing her interests with the people she loved. Her warmth touched the lives of many and she will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2905 South Carson Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to O’Riley-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Indianapolis, Indiana.

  1. I was sorry to hear of Elaine’s passing. I met her when I was going to Good Shepherd. I also was her hairdresser for many years. I loved hearing about all her many accomplishments and activities that she seemed to have endless amounts of energy. She was an amazing lady.
