Elizabeth Ann Van Noy

September 1, 1939 ~ December 18, 2023
Elizabeth Ann (Jones) Van Noy, 84, Greenwood, passed away December 18, 2023. Mrs. Van Noy was born September 1, 1939, in Indianapolis, to the late Burton and Margaretha (Schoettle) Jones. She married the late Richard J. Van Noy, and he preceded her in death on April 4, 2019.
Liz graduated from the first graduating class of Scecina Memorial High School. She pursued an education and career in nursing, graduating from St. Vincent Nursing School, Marian University, and earned her MSN from Indiana University. Liz began working in 1961 as a registered nurse at the Richard Roudebush VA Medical Center. She was then employed as a registered nurse and supervisor at Community East from 1981-2001. Always a strong believer in education, Liz then taught at IUPUI from 2001 until her retirement in 2013. She was a longtime member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
She and Richard raised their family in Holy Spirit Parish on Indianapolis’ east side. In the late 1990’s they moved to Greenwood and became charter parishioners at Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi Catholic Church. Liz was an active member of her church family and was also part of the committee that made the grade school a reality. She was a proud nurse, but her family brought the most joy in her life. She simply loved being a grandma and created many memories with her grandchildren through the years. Liz enjoyed shopping and never turned down an opportunity to pause for a scoop of ice cream. Her memory will be forever cherished by a loving family and many friends.
Survivors include her children, R.J. (Lori) Van Noy, Stephanine Tatarek, and Andrew Schoettle (Stacy) Van Noy; sisters, Mary Frances (the late Ed) Doyle, Kathleen “Tyke” (the late Earl) Carter, Margie (the late Roland) Litz, and Donna Monaghan; grandchildren, Lauren Van Noy, Monica (Dominic) Henn, Colette Van Noy, Grace Tatarek, Shannon Van Noy, and Heather Van Noy.
A Life Celebration® Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 26, 2023, 5 to 8 p.m., at the O’Riley Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12 Noon, Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Cremation will follow, and inurnment will be in the Resurrection Garden at Saints Francis & Clare. Mrs. & Mr. VanNoy opened their home to me when Stephanine and I became friends at Cathedral High School. Mrs. VanNoy was an intelligent, hardworking, well spoken, gracious, and faith filled woman. She will be greatly missed. Much love to her family and all her friends. She will not be forgotten.
My condolences to the family. I share her connection thru St. Philip Neri Grade School, Scecina Memorial High School and St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. Her sisters Margie and Donna were with me in grade school. Years later, I meet up with her as my boss at Community East. Truly a nice person. Maybe its that east side connection!!!!

Liz was one of my nursing clinical instructors at IU School of Nursing in the early 80’s. I have not forgotten what a great
teacher, with a great personality and knowledge she shared. She was practical, reasonable, and fair. I enjoyed my classes
with her and learned a lot. She gave a lot to others. With sympathy to her family and friends.
I met Liz when she and I attended a Casting for Recovery Indiana retreat (fly fishing/wellness) back in May 2009 in Henryville, IN . She had also invited her classmates (all breast cancer survivors) to her home in Bargersville after our retreat so we could meet and catch up on our lives. I’m so sorry that I didn’t know about her passing until now as I’ve been trying to reach her unsuccessfully by phone and e-mail since June 2022 when her e-mail failed. I am so very sorry for your loss and extend my deepest condolenses to you and your family. It’s tough losing a loved one, but I think it’s especially tough during the holiday season. I lost my dad five years ago on December 10th. I will keep Liz and her family in my thoughts and prayers!
