James R. "Jim" Chase

James R. “Jim” Chase, 77, of Indianapolis, passed away at Community South Hospital on December 13, 2021 with his family by his side. He was born on July 17, 1944 in Kingsport, Tennessee to the late James Roy and Goldie Charlotte (Robbins) Chase. Jim graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis in the class of 1962. Jim and Provi were charter members of St. Barnabas Catholic Church, where he coached both boys’ and girls’ CYO basketball for many years. Truly passionate about the sport, Jim was also a dedicated Indiana University basketball fan. Jim enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family in The Villages, Florida. Jim was very social and enjoyed getting together with friends, especially on the weekends for dinner. A devoted grandpa, Jim never missed the opportunity to support his grandchildren at one of their school or sporting events. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. We ae very sorry for the loss of your parents. We will always remember them and the family gatherings we shared.

  2. Bob met Jim when he was coaching him in basketball (I believe at Holy Trinity gym), and saw great promise in him. He encouraged Jim to attend Marian College where I attended, believing that Jim had enough talent to play basketball there. Jim went to Marian, made the team, became a Catholic, and met sweet Provi there. Bob and I have always loved them.

  3. Such sad news. Jim was such a Great Neighbor, Parishioner, story teller, team mate and Human! I have so many fond memories of being neighbors with him and Provi! Softball @ St. Barnabas! Drinking beer and listening to the stories after Softball! Seeing him and Provi at Walsh’s pool. Or over at our house. He did so much good for our family with his connections at GM! He ALWAYS had that smile on his face. I don’t ever remember him NOT having that Smile! (except maybe when IU basketball wasn’t playing good while watching the game at Schneiders)!!! He told such good stories and had that accent! Jim will be dearly missed by all of us Lakers! Such a good person and gone WAY too soon!!! Sincere Condolences to Michelle and the rest of the family….

  4. Cherished are the 50 years of memories of our times together, never to be forgotten with Jim and his dear family. I can still hear his laughter, and the roar of the extended family laughing at the funny childhood stories Jim and Bill offered up for us, he will be missed by many.

  5. For 28 years Jim & Provi had to endure living nextdoor to us. Fortunately we shared many of the same ideas and values: Our Catholic faith and involvement at St Barnabas church…Love of family… IU basketball.. cigars and ice cold beer. I will miss the scent of lit cigar wafting over the wood fence and hear him laughing poolside. RIP my good neighbor

  6. Andy is exactly right, Jim and Provi will be dearly missed! What a gift to have known him. Always a smile on his face and ready for a good laugh. Will always be in his debt for all he did for us at GM but more in his debt for being our friend. What a fantastic person in every way. He will be missed but he will always be remembered.
