Jeffrey D. Levenhagen

Jeffrey D. Levenhagen, 71, Speedway, IN, passed away May 23, 2021, after a long health battle. Jeff was born August 24, 1949, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Donald and June (Urban) Levenhagen. He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Hodge), whom he married on July 30th, 1983.

Jeff proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and later in the United States Air Force Reserves. He graduated from Maplewood Community College with a liberal arts degree, with an emphasis in social work. Jeff was truly a man for others – he worked as a case manager at the Milwaukee Rescue Mission for many years, where he assisted countless homeless men to regain stability. A faith-filled man, Jeff was heavily involved with ministry in multiple churches and served at Life Tabernacle Church for 8 years until his passing. He had a passion for caring for people through teaching, preaching, and other various giftings. Like his mother, he was also very musically inclined and played drums from the time he was 4 years old. Jeff found joy in many hobbies throughout his lifetime. He avidly collected, repaired, and restored antiques, and was a lifelong historian with a fascination for the Civil War. Above all, Jeff was strongly devoted to his family. He will be fondly remembered by his family and many friends for his goofy sense of humor, and for his quiet, kind and gentle manner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Leon Levenhagen.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Beverly; as well as children, Paul Levenhagen, Lora (Eric) Hopp, Josh (Liz) Levenhagen, and Tim Levenhagen; two grandchildren, Andrew and Rayna Hopp.

Guestbook

  1. Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss. Our prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

  2. Always grateful for having befriending the Levenhagen family in the early 1990s! Jeffrey will be missed by many.

  3. We met the Jefffrey Levenhagen family in Milwaukee at Bethel Assembly of God (now known as Poplar Creek Church) in the early 1990s… where Jeff played the drums. For years Jeff, Joshua, & Tim were also frequently active and animated on stage in church plays several times a year. Jeffrey’s otherwise more private character also unfolded unreservedly while working at Milwaukee Rescue Mission where he both taught from the Bible and kept order among the homeless men…some times showing them the door IF they couldn’t keep the house rules (as a former military man that was the correct way to do things). We knew Jeffrey as a family man who never waivered in his faith. Marcus & Anna-Lise Collins

  4. Many fun & goofy holidays were spent with Jeff, Bev, and the boys at their various homes! But I especially remember that I could always find Jeff sitting somewhere reading his Bible! His faith was such a comfort & support to him. It’s comforting to know that he’s now at peace with Jesus. One of Jeff’s greatest joys was helping others to grow in their faith through his work at the Rescue Mission.

  5. We will always cherish the times we shared singing, laughing and being together. “Til There was You” will always be Jeff’s to own and will be a lasting joy in our hearts!
