John A. Miller, Jr.

John A. Miller, Jr., 87, Indianapolis, passed away June 15, 2017. Mr. Miller was born on April 13, 1930, in Indianapolis, to the late John A. and Mary Emma (Dyer) Miller.

John proudly served in the United States Marine Corp and worked at Roberts Dairy for more than 20 years. He retired as an assistant assessor after many years with the Marion County Assessor’s Office. John was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church for most of his life. A devout Catholic, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3660. He was known to enjoy an occasional trip to the casino and was comfortable with a fishing rod in his hand. Above all, John was strongly devoted to his Lord and his family. He will be fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and kind spirit.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, James, George, and Monica; a son, Michael A. Miller, and a grandson, William Charles White III.

Survivors include his wife, Delores (Skillman) Miller, to whom he was united in marriage November 5, 1949; children, Anna (Ralph) Everroad, Judi (Gary) Delk, Mary (Stu) Moyer, Ruth (William) White, John (Cathy) Miller, daughter-in-law, Mynevia Miller; siblings, Mary Lula Wheeler, Helen Chalupa, Theresa Whitby, Della Downing, Rosie Clark; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of John A. Miller, Jr. on Monday, June 19, 2017, 5 to 8 p.m., in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street, where prayers will be said on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Tuesday, in St. Roch Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Roch Catholic Church. The family encourages casual attire in honor of John’s wishes.   1. When I was about 12, Mary asked her dad if I could go with her to their lake place. He looked at me and said” Do you pee the bed”. I laughed and said no. He told Mary that if I did then we would need a cork and we all laughed and thus the name Corky was born. He was so funny.

  2. The man that taught me about the Lord and life and when I strayed always had a gentle hand in putting back on the right path. Dad you been gone just a short time but the emptiness in my heart is tremendous. No kids could ever ask for a better father you are the BEST. RIP love always little brother

  3. When I was about six years old John and Delores took me downtown to the Circle theater and we saw Bambi. We then went to a restaurant and had lunch. That was such a neat experience. I still remember this some seventy years ago. I remember John as a big hulking guy.
