Luther G. Scott

Luther G. Scott, a cherished figure and a remarkable contributor to the lives of many, passed away tragically in a motorcycle accident on September 2 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 73. He was born on May 16, 1951, in Natchez, Mississippi, to Frances Pendelton and Joseph Brown. Luther lived a life rich in love, laughter, and a relentless dedication to his family and profession.

As a hardworking general contractor in the construction industry, Luther's craftsmanship was not just his career; it was a reflection of his spirit. Known for being an adept handyman, he had the unique ability to fix or build anything. His expertise was matched only by his unwavering passion for his work, inspiring those around him to appreciate the skill involved in building and creating.

Luther was not only a dedicated professional but a proud US Navy veteran who served his country with honor. After his military service, he channeled his discipline and strength into various pursuits, becoming a martial arts master and instructor. His life was a testament to intelligence and determination as he instilled these values in the generations to come.

He was a loving father, a kind-hearted friend, and a well-known and adored figure in his community. Those who knew him often reflected on how his children referred to him as "the greatest man they have ever known." The heartfelt words of his loved ones speak volumes about the pillar he was in their lives. Luther's ability to thrive in joyous moments and his infectious laughter turned even the mundane into memorable events.

Family meant everything to Luther, and he relished every opportunity to spend time with them. He was a grandfather who took immense pride in being very active in the lives of his grandchildren. From exciting trips to the simple joy of inviting them over for “sleepovers,” he created timeless memories that they will carry with them forever.

Luther's hobbies brought him as much joy as he brought to others. He loved nothing more than riding his Harley, feeling the exhilarating wind brush against him as he took to the open road. His zest for life and joyful spirit were contagious, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and connection among friends and family.

Luther is survived by his children; Jonathan, Courtney, and Kobi Scott, grandchildren; Capella, Cadonna, Caluvia, John II, and John III, 7 siblings, and many nieces and nephews.

  1. I’m sorry for your loss! I met him when I was 18,he was a very good person. We used to play cards & go for rides on our motorcycles. I always love to hear him talk because he was so knowledgeable. I would sit and listen to him for hours. Don’t think there was anything he didn’t know about. He definitely will be missed by many, many people!! Once again I am truly sorry for your family!!

  2. I met Luther fifty years ago and we instantly became friends. We shared many adventures and he helped me with many projects. He was always there for me and I tried to be there for him whenever he might need. However, Luther was competent and very seldom needed help. He was able to do anything with his strength and intelligence. I will miss him sorely in my life. I never had such a good friend before and I know I will never have such a good friend again.

  3. Luther and I had a lot of good times over the years whether on the road for work or hanging out in Columbus. Many hours playing chess and on a bowling league together at one point. He was more than a friend to me…he was family.

  4. Sending love, light, comfort and prayers.
Luther was always a great friend, neighbor, and human in general. We will miss hearing the kids holler “there goes Luther on his bike!”

    Forever in our hearts
