Margaret Helen (Higgins) Robisch

May 14, 1928 ~ October 31, 2021
Margaret Helen (Higgins) Robisch passed peacefully away October 31, 2021, fulfilling her dream to get noticed in the obits section. She was born in Indianapolis on May 14, 1928 to the late Karl and Audrey (Oberting) Higgins. Margaret was a High School graduate of St. Agnes Academy, in Indianapolis and earned a Degree from Mount Saint Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
She worked with her family in numerous businesses, most notably Higgins Restaurant and Gift Shop, a longtime Southside Indianapolis business landmark on the corner of Shelby and Raymond Streets. Once called “The Don Rickles of Shelby Street,” she was known for heckling customers who ordered desert before eating their vegetables. Margaret’s passion was the Gift Shop — one of the first Hallmark Gold Crown stores in Indiana. Margaret was a very active member of St. Jude Catholic Church and was always involved in numerous church and service organizations. She also enjoyed traveling with a close group of friends called “the Dirty Dozen.” Greece was one of her favorite destinations.
Beside her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Robert C. Robisch; infant son Michael Robisch; infant daughter Mary Beth Robisch; and brother-in-law Thomas E. Quill, Jr. She is survived by her sons Robert K. (Jill) Robisch and James T. (Susan) Robisch; grandchildren Katherine A. Robisch (Rank Dawson, III) and James R. Robisch; and sister Rosemarie Quill, as well as her nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grand nieces and -nephews, and many across the Southside who called her “Aunt Maggie.”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday November 13th at 10:00 AM at St. Jude Catholic Church 5375 McFarland Rd. Indianapolis, In. 46227. A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 at the Church before the mass. O’Riley Funeral Home 6107 South East St. Indianapolis is serving the family. One of the sweetest and funniest friends I have had in my life. Rest In Peace
Dear Maggie’s family. Please accept my deapest sympathy on the death of your Mother and Grandmother from another “Mountee”. I graduated from the Mount in 1949. I moved from Michigan to Indianapolis in 1954. Sister Mary Lea put me in touch with the Mount Club here and I spent many many evenings visiting with all the Mountees in their homes catching up on what was going on at the Mount. When I went to the Old Mount when Sister Maria Corona was the Dean things were much different than they are today! It was an all girls college! Helen Lavey Wilson
I always enjoyed my time spent with “Aunt Maggie”-a kind, remarkable, wonderful lady. My sincere condolences to Jim, Bob, and the entire Robisch & Quill families. Mark Mallatt and family.
