Richard Lee Basham

January 15, 1947 ~ January 21, 2024
Richard Lee Basham, 77 of Indianapolis, passed away on January 21, 2024. He was born on January 15, 1947, in Logansport, Indiana to Milton and Erma Florence Deter Basham.
Richard was proud to serve in the United States Marine Corp from 1966 – 1970. While serving in Vietnam he received a Good Conduct medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was able to spend a year in Vietnam with his brother William while they both served in the Marine Corp.
Richard was a long-time member of the American Legion Post # 64, Indianapolis, Indiana. He was an operating engineer for the International Operating Engineers # 103.
Richard had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting casinos, and spending time with his friends.
Richard is survived by his sister Gerry Ann Roesberry of Mariposa, California, brother William Basham of Sturgis, Michigan, and several nieces and nephews.
Richard will be laid to rest at the Crown Hill National VA Cemetery, 725 W 42nd St, Indianapolis, IN 46208 with military honors on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 10 AM.
The family would like a special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Phillips of the American Legion Post # 64 and the O’Riley Branson Funeral Service.

I’m his ex wife Teresa (Basham) DeMoss for 10 years. I will always love him and have a place in my heart for him. I Call him Blondie and he was a Stepdad to my Son Jimmy Tubbs I will miss him. R.i.p.

His favorite pie was butterscotch and he love mushrooms and was a great cook. He was a great guy.

Richard, hi I am so sorry that I did not know that you had passed away, no one called or let me know, I have always loved you I thought the world of you as a young boy and as a man as a basketball player, As a brother you were wonderful. I will miss you your sister, Gerry Ann. Rest in peace baby.
